Hi,

I'm looking at switching back from Firefox to Safari and am trying out Pukka to see if it can replace the Firefox Delicious bookmark for me.

I'm having a couple of annoying issues:

1. Why does Pukka keep asking for my keychain password? Can't I put it in once when I open the app and then it will remember for the rest of that session?

2. I worked out how to set a global hotkey (it's showing in the Pukka menu next to Search) but it only seems to work when I have Pukka as the active program. I want to be able to hit the keys while in Safari and have it open the Pukka search window. Is this possible?

3. I noticed someone was asking about having a default setting for post private to delicious and that it's not yet available. How do I make any post private or can I not do that at all?

Hope someone can help.

Cheers,

Stew

Hi Stew, 1. You should not be

Hi Stew,

1. You should not be getting a password prompt every use. Sounds like something may be up with your keychain. Please try either Keychain First Aid (in the Keychain Access utility) or deleting the keychain item from the keychain and re-adding it in Pukka. On Tiger, you will get a keychain prompt each time you upgrade the app, but this has been solved on Leopard and Snow Leopard through the use of code signing.

2. This should be working in any application. I've tested it on Tiger as well. Can you try a different keystroke and see if that works? There might be a system-wide conflict.

3. There is a preference in Pukka to enable private posting in the Interface section. Once you've turned that on, a lock icon should show up next to the URL field. You can click it to post privately and the keyboard shortcut is Command-L.

Thanks for writing!

Hi Justin, Thanks for the

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Well, I got the keychain sorted (deleted the Pukka keychain) and I found the lock for private posting but ... I still can't get the hotkey to work!

I've tried a number of different ones. The current one is ctrl+option+command+6 (which I thought was pretty obscure). They all work fine when Pukka has focus but not when Safari has focus. Is there an extra setting I have to make in Prefs to make it act globally?

This is the first time I've added an application key command so maybe I'll explain what I did. Opened Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts. Scrolled to the 'Application Keyboard Shortcuts' section where I clicked on the + and added Application: 'Pukka', MenuTitle: 'Search' and Keyboard Shortcut: 'ctrl+option+command+6 '. Is that correct?

Do you have any other suggestions, including maybe a better key combination to try?

Appreciate your help.

Stew

Aha! That explains it. Here's

Aha! That explains it. Here's the problem.

Within Pukka, there is already a shortcut of Command-F for bringing up search. That will work only in the app.

The section of System Preferences that you've gone to is for setting up custom shortcuts that also work only in the context of the menu item that they trigger. So that's why it's not working outside of Pukka.

Pukka itself has a preference, in the preferences window, under 'Search' where you can set a custom keyboard shortcut. This shortcut is meant to apply system-wide. If you try your combination there, this should work properly.

Sorry I didn't understand sooner that you were someplace other than Pukka's preferences!

Please let me know that this works ok for you, and thanks for your patience!
