Bug fix release: 1.4.1

Posted in

I've just released Pukka 1.4.1 to fix a couple bugs that users might have been seeing with this week's 1.4. Essentially, Pukka should run a tad faster, be more impervious to crashing, and not make any sound effects if you don't want it to ;-)

As always, get Pukka here or through auto-updating right in the application (Pukka->Check For Updates...).

I hope you enjoy these enhancements!

Weird thing, pukka won't post now. It was working before I updated - is there something I should do? It just says "please try again."

Wess, can you try going to this URL?

Enter in your login details when it asks.

Does that page load? Does your password work? It may be an issue with either del.icio.us right now (though I'm not seeing any) or with your account in particular. If it persists, feel free to email me and we can continue to debug this.

I'm getting this from that link you posted:
Sorry, Unable to process request at this time -- error 999.

Unfortunately we are unable to process your request at this time. This error is usually temporary. Please try again later.

If you continue to experience this error, it may be caused by one of the following:

You may want to scan your system for spyware and viruses, as they may interfere with your ability to connect to Yahoo!. For detailed information on spyware and virus protection, please visit the Yahoo! Security Center.
This problem may be due to unusual network activity coming from your Internet Service Provider. We recommend that you report this problem to them.
While this error is usually temporary, if it continues and the above solutions don't resolve your problem, please let us know.

Return to Yahoo!

Hmm, that sounds like maybe they are blocking you for some reason. I see a few references to this error:

I try to obey the API rules with Pukka so I don't know if it's anything I've done. Would you mind contacting del.icio.us support about it if it keeps up? I'd offer to do it, but it will probably involve transferring your username, IP address, and possibly other info so perhaps it's easiest if you contact them directly.

Thanks Justin, I will do and let you know how it goes.

Hi. I've been using Pukka for some time and it's brilliant. But I just decided to switch from Safari to Firefox as my default browser and I've run into a mild problem.

I was using Pukka via Quicksilver, by using a trigger which just called the bookmarklet. This worked beautifully in Safari, but in Firefox it opens a new blank tab and gives me a blank Pukka posting window. Can you suggest any way of getting this to work? It's not the end of the world but it would be nice to be able to do it.

@Harry: I'm not too familiar with the internals of Firefox, but I know that it has some quirks compared to other browsers on the Mac. One thing that you might want to check out is some Applescripts that I released a while back that can be used with launchers like Quicksilver to pass info to Pukka. You can see them here. Perhaps the Firefox one will get the job done for you, or possibly point to the problem. But I think it has something to do with the way Firefox isn't Mac native and the way it handles Javascript from the "outside".

Thanks, I'll check out those Applescripts.

@Justin: Congrats on the 1.4 release. I'm in a situation somewhat similar to Harry, except that I'm trying to move over to OmniWeb as my main browser. I downloaded the AppleScripts you've pointed to, but none of them references OmniWeb (which probably deserves a little love in this regard!). Anyhow, I tried to modify the generic "Send URL to Pukka" script by adding a section identical to the one that references Safari, but I just replaced the two occurrences of "Safari" with "OmniWeb." I thought this might work since OmniWeb is so similar to Safari (based on WebKit and all), but unfortunately nothing happened when I ran the script via Quicksilver. Any thoughts?

@Harry: I just tried the script discussed here in Firefox, and it worked. Only downside (compared to the bookmarklet in Safari, which is a technique I've been using as well) is that the "title" field doesn't get populated. Just the "URL" field.

@Nate: I'll check this out... I moved to OmniWeb in November so I'd be interested in seeing this work. I just use the bookmarklet currently, though.

Nate and Justin: the Applescript does work well, but not grabbing the title or any selected text is a nuisance. I probably use Pukka 5 or 6 times a day, so the irritation mounts up.

For the moment I think I'll go back to using Safari, although the lack of CoComment, AdBlock and proper Java implementation are all annoying. Thanks for the suggestions, anyway.
